Dear Jaacob, in your swing, do you advocate throwing the club as Mike advocated and does this add to swing speed?  Thanks. – Hendrik H

Jaacob’s Answer:

In my personal experience, I seem to get about 5 mph of club head speed when throwing from the top. So, yes, it can add speed.

The trick is letting the club move in to free motion after that initial throw stimulus.

In a long drive contest, I would definitely use the throw. In golf, I might also do it with my driver if the hole is pretty wide open in the landing area. With irons, I most often would not do it because…
