It used to be thought that the path of your swing controlled the start direction and the direction of the clubface would be where the ball would end up. However, we now know that this is not true.

So what makes a ball curve the way it does?

The Clubface Determines Initial Start Direction of the Ball

The first thing I want you to understand is that the initial direction the ball starts off is primarily determined from where the clubface is aimed at the moment of impact.

So if the clubface is pointed left of the target at impact, the ball will start off towards the left.
